Samsung Captivate
My quick shorts on what to do… Mostly for when I forget later on.
From getting the captivate, take note of the baseband version and track down an odin3 backup. Settings>About Phone>Baseband Version. I’m on an I897UCJF6
This way when… err if you screw up you have something to work with and reload. Now rooting is a good idea.
Grab the Eclair/Froyo version, rename it update.zip and toss it on the internal SD card
New to me is this Clockwork Recovery, which seems to hold some warnings and risks. I keep reading DONT PICK REPARTITION!

For prepping for RMA procedures and preventing them to realize that voodoo that we do was ever done, looks like Odin3 is your exit strategy. Get into Download Mode
adb reboot download
The best I can tell, then just run odin3 and master clear everything last to make it stock and unaware of the world around it again.
